The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the 2008 model year vehicles that will undergo crash and rollover testing as part of the agency’s annual consumer safety ratings program.
A total of 30 passenger cars, 19 sport utility vehicles, two vans, and three pickups will undergo frontal and side crash testing. The agency will also rate 22 passenger cars, 20 sport utility vehicles, three vans and one pickup for rollover resistance.
Together with vehicles already rated, this new testing will provide consumers with frontal crash ratings for more than 88 percent of all 2008 models, side impact ratings for nearly 78 percent and rollover information for about 92 percent.
NHTSA uses a consumer-friendly rating system that makes it easy to compare the predicted safety performance of rated vehicles.
The ratings for the 2008 models, as well as for previous years, can also be found at www.safercar.gov, or by calling NHTSA's toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
