Mulkey Engineers & Consultants Marks 15 Years, Supports Hunger Relief

RALEIGH, N.C., May. 09 /PRNewswire/ --

RALEIGH, N.C., May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Mulkey Engineers & Consultants announced today the kick-off of a company-wide volunteer effort in the local and global fight against hunger to commemorate the firm's 15-year anniversary. Founded by Barbara H. Mulkey in 1993, the firm was established to offer public and private sectors a unique combination of top-quality engineering services paired with exceptional customer service.

Mulkey employees will work with four non-profit organizations in an effort to raise awareness of the growing hunger crisis. These organizations include: Stop Hunger Now in Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C.; Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia, S.C.; Atlanta Community Food Bank; and Second Harvest Food Bank in Jacksonville, Fla. Some of the support activities will include sorting food for food drives, stocking shelves and packaging high-protein meals for distribution to international crisis-burdened areas.

"It's the support from organizations like Mulkey that allows us to work towards our mission of combating hunger locally and worldwide," said Rod Brooks, CEO of Stop Hunger Now. "We look forward to partnering with Mulkey in our efforts to educate the public about the causes and possible solutions to hunger."

In 15 years, Mulkey has become a successful business boasting 220 employees and a solid track record in the civil engineering and consulting industry. In addition to providing clients with first-class service and industry expertise, Mulkey also places a strong emphasis on community service.

"We have extremely talented and dedicated employees, and a large part of our growth is rooted in their commitment to the communities where they live and work," said Jill Wells Heath, Mulkey president and CEO. "Lending a hand in the fight against hunger is an important cause to the Mulkey family and as we reflect on the last 15 years, we felt there was no better way to celebrate than to share our good fortune with those in most need."

Mulkey Milestones: -- In 1993, the firm, then Barbara H. Mulkey Engineering, Inc. (BHME), landed two key projects to jump-start its presence in North Carolina. The widening of U.S. 17 in Onslow County was the first project for which BHME was selected as prime consultant. The I-85 widening project in Durham County brought the firm into the field of construction engineering and inspection. -- By 1997, the firm had grown substantially and formed a survey group. This group provided internal support on design projects and grew to be a major source of revenue. 1997 also marked the expansion of BHME into the Charlotte market. -- The company's 10-year anniversary in 2003 included a new corporate name, Mulkey Engineers & Consultants. At that time, the company employed 185 staff members in two states, a huge jump from six employees in 1993. -- In 2005, Mulkey expanded into Florida by opening the Jacksonville office, giving the company six offices located throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
