NBCH´s Community Coalitions Health Institute Receives CDC Grant

WASHINGTON, May. 06 /PRNewswire/ --

Institute partners with state and local public health agencies for Community Health Partnership Project

WASHINGTON, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Community Coalitions Health Institute (CCHI), a 501(c)(3) affiliate of the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) announced that it has received a five-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to drive improvement in community health systems across the country. The goal of the Community Health Partnership Project is to strengthen existing relationships and catalyze new partnerships between the 60 NBCH member coalitions throughout the U.S. and state and local public health agencies for the purpose of advancing population health strategies at the community level.

The public health and business sectors share a common interest in improving population health. The employer community, represented by NBCH member coalitions, and the public health community are natural partners with aligned interests. For employers, improving workforce health and productivity is a critical competitive asset. By investing and improving the health of the community, companies can benefit from reduced workforce illness which relieves pressure on direct and indirect operating costs and can draw from a healthier workforce pool.

"With this project we hope to learn more about how business and health coalitions can successfully work in partnership with public health agencies and other stakeholders to improve workforce and community health," said Andrew Webber, president and CEO of NBCH. "We applaud the CDC for encouraging the business sector to work with public health agencies for the purposes of improving community health."

The goal of CCHI is to develop research for employer lead coalitions and other industry stakeholders to implement value based purchasing - obtaining the highest quality care at the most reasonable cost - across the country.

"We are so pleased with efforts of our partner organization, NBCH," said George Roberts, PhD, director, Division of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances, National Center for Health Marketing, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Its business-led health coalition members are in keeping with the CDC's goal to encourage collaboration of both private and public sectors to create healthy communities. Initiatives similar to the Community Health Partnership Project support our vision of a world where all people actively use accessible, accurate, relevant, and timely health information and interventions to protect and promote their health and the health of their families and communities."
